FOOD RELIEF CENTRE OPERATIONAL AND USAGE POLICY

Our Food Relief Centre operates under the Free Supermarket model in order to give our participants the dignity of choosing their own groceries.  Due to the large number of participants that we currently have accessing food relief, we use systems and policies to operate our Food Relief Centre.

OUR QUEUE NUMBER SYSTEM

Participants need to queue and wait for their turn to be served, and this is facilitated by a queue numbering system inside our foyer.

Numbers may only be taken for people who are in the building, and not for people who are to arrive later.

Please note that if a participant leaves the foyer or the front steps area, they will forfeit their place in the queue.

SUPPORT WORKERS & SUPPORT PEOPLE

It is our policy that all participants who are brought by a Support Worker are to be accompanied by that person while they shop.  This is for the safety and comfort of our participants, who may have complex needs that we may not be aware of. This is also for the safety and comfort of our volunteers.

OTHER INFORMATION

If your needs are outside of this policy, please communicate that with the Foyer Manager.

In our Food Relief Centre, we train our staff and volunteers to address the person who is going to be consuming the groceries that we distribute.  This makes the interaction with the participant dignified and respectful.

Due to the structure of our Food Relief program as communicated above, we ask Support Workers to wear either their identification badge, a lanyard, or a company t-shirt.

If you do not have any of these, we can provide you with a visitor lanyard.
